It’s happened again… maybe the third time? My computer has rebooted and I’ve lost the path/connection/link between Tropy and the images to which the tags refer. I’m so bummed to lose, like, hundreds of hours of work. Can someone help me fix this?
To be clear, there is no way how rebooting the computer can break the association between an advanced project and the imported files. Tropy stores a record of the imported file’s path, like: /Users/name/Pictures/file.jpg permanently in the project db. The ONLY way for this to break is if the path changes: i.e. the file is renamed or moved, or any of the folders in the path are renamed or moved. If you did not move the files and the triangle shows up then the path/link should be fine, but there could be a permissions issue that prevents Tropy from accessing the file (this can easily happen if you reboot after a system update).
Either way, we can help you fix this, but first we need to figure out what exactly the problem is. Is this an advanced or standard project? For any of the files that Tropy can’t load we need to establish A where Tropy thinks the file should be and B where it actually is. If A and B are not the same, we need to fix it by updating the path to reflect where the files were moved to; if A and B are the same then it’s most likely a permissions issue (worth checking the log file after trying to open the image).
