Error installing Tropy on HP laptop (Windows)

Hello, I am trying to install Tropy on my computer, but when I open the exe file, it comes back with the following error message:

{“msg”:“unhandled error: Failed to get ‘documents’ path”,“stack”:“Error: Failed to get ‘documents’ path\n at WindowManager.open (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\tropy\app-1.16.2\resources\app.asar\lib\browser\main-CG_pYQw_.js:16791:31)\n at Tropy.showProjectWindow (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\tropy\app-1.16.2\resources\app.asar\lib\browser\main-CG_pYQw_.js:20917:22)\n at Tropy.openMostRecentProject (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\tropy\app-1.16.2\resources\app.asar\lib\browser\main-CG_pYQw_.js:20875:17)\n at Tropy.open (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\tropy\app-1.16.2\resources\app.asar\lib\browser\main-CG_pYQw_.js:20852:57)\n at App. (C:\Users\HP\AppData\Local\tropy\app-1.16.2\resources\app.asar\lib\browser\main-CG_pYQw_.js:23125:17)”,“system”:“Windows_NT 10.0.22631 (x64)”,“time”:1739316751915,“version”:“1.16.2”}

I am downloading the correct version (x64 for Windows), but I keep running into this error. Any idea what the problem is and how to solve it?

Thanks!
Andrew

This error indicates that there’s no ‘Documents’ folder defined by your operating system. If you open windows explorer, do you have a documents shortcut in the side panel? If the target location was renamed or deleted by accident you should be able to create a new folder, but you can also right click on the folder there, select properties, and then set the location of the documents folder.

Hi, thank you for your response. My documents file path is “C:\Users\HP\Documents.” I’m still getting the same error message. Anything else I should try?

Oh, and I should clarify that my operating system is Windows 11.

Thanks again,
Andrew

Uggh, looks like I finally got it: had to first make sure all folders were visible, and then found that my documents systems folder was specified in Drive E for some reason. Moving that folder back to Drive C fixed the problem. Thanks again for your help!
