Hyperspectral images and Tropy

Hey, has anybody used Tropy to manage metadata of hyperspectral images? Or is it something that is not in the scope of Tropy?

That’s not something we have looked at. Are there any specific requirements (e.g. formats)? Otherwise you can probably use Tropy just fine to organize the images. If there are specific workflows / use-cases that would benefit for example by a dedicated filter/shader that’s something we could explore adding to the image viewer.

Hi, thanks for the response!
The hyperspectral image is stored as a folder, consisting of various metadata files, picture files and the actual datacube. It would be great if I could use the viewfinder image from the camera as the thumbnail but also consolidate the whole folder in one item to manage and write metadata. An example dataset for clarification here Hyperspectral image using Specim IQ camera from Chatzivariti Winery (survey date 2021-07-23) #20

Would these folder work as items in tropy?

That’s intriguing! Combining the four images into an item would be easy. The item thumbnail is determined by the order of the photos, so by positioning the viewfinder image first it would be used as the item’s cover image. You can then easily attach tags and text-based metadata fields to individual photos or the whole item/group, as well as longer texts via notes. What can kind of metadata would you be adding? Ideally, you’d create a template listing exactly which fields you want (this works both at the item- and photo-level).

If this metadata is already provided in the linked metadata files or datacube, an import plugin could extract those automatically. To decide on the feasibility of this, the easiest exercise would be to turn the dataset above into a corresponding Tropy item manually, using just the information provided by those files. If that produces a useful result it could easily be automated by an import plugin.

Thanks! will play around with Tropy a bit more and get back when I have something
