IIIF for image viewing

It seems like image rendering and interoperability could be improved by using IIIF and a viewer like Mirador or UV, especially in a future cloud-based version of Tropy. It’s possible to run an image server locally, or to meet lower levels of the IIIF prezi spec without a full image server. v3.0 of the API will also introduce support for A/V media. Just something to keep in mind!

It would be incredibly cool if we could simply paste in a IIIF manifest URL and get it in Tropy. So much great content out there, locked into completely unusable online viewers.

If that could lead to being able to use Tropy as a personal iiif server, it would become outstanding for PhD students and researchers that cannot rely on public or private organisms to store their images.
The iiif plug-in is amazing, and I really hope that more features are added, such as copy-pasting a manifest link without having to download it, having a viewer, and facilitating iiif image creation with integration with free servers such as archive.org.
