Hello, I recently switched computers and now am unable to open my file. This is the message I get:
{“msg”:“invalid project info”,“stack”:“AssertionError [ERR_ASSERTION]: invalid project info\n at load (/Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/bootstrap-Cu1HUZ1R.js:14886:3)\n at async open$3 (/Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/bootstrap-Cu1HUZ1R.js:14833:17)”,“system”:“Darwin 23.6.0 (arm64)”,“time”:1724794071143,“version”:“1.16.2”}
I did the transfer during a chaotic moment and clearly lost some data in the process, as I can no longer open it on my old machine or new machine. I spent over an hour with my university’s IT department to no avail. We tried merging package contents from one version of the file that has no assets and another version of the file with assets only (for some reason I have 3 different versions as different clouds were competing on my old machine, but no version has everything/can open).
Do you have any sense from this error message if my file is recuperable?
Can you share these versions with us? Maybe we can figure it out and find or restore a working version.
Yes, thank you! Trying to upload, but I’m getting the notification that I can only upload 5 files at a time. All I’m doing is dragging and dropping my .tropy file. (When I try it through the upload icon, my .tropy file is grayed out.) What is the best way to send you the files?
The .tropy
project is actually a folder, so you can’t upload it like that, but you could zip it first. Alternatively, you could look into the folder (on macOS you can right-click the file and select to show package contents) and upload only the project.tpy
files of the different versions of the project you have. These are the database files and contain all the metadata (your photos are stored in the assets folder separately).
If the zipped project files are too large you could also upload them elsewhere and share the link here.
Awesome, thank you, the three files are attached
project.tpy (144 KB)
project.tpy (144 KB)
project.tpy (144 KB)
This is strange. All three files are valid SQLite database files with Tropy’s project schema. However, they are completely empty. There is no information about the project (name etc.) and also no access log, that is to say these are not really files which Tropy can produce. When you create a new project in Tropy it would include the project name and a creation date etc. It’s strange because the integrity of the files is fine too, so it’s unlikely that they are the result of a file corruption (e.g. interrupted copy or other file operation). I guess it’s most likely this happened when you tried to merge package contents in some way. Is there any chance that you still have the file versions from before you did that? With the versions above unfortunately there is no data there at all which could be recovered.
Thank you. Been trying to retrace my steps. My old machine was set up incorrectly and iCloud and OneDrive were competing, which I fear is what overrode the file. Weirdly, the first day I worked with IT here a few days ago I could find a file that had been created in June 2023 (when I first transferred all my files to Tropy). But even the day after we couldn’t find that same file. I’m attaching here 3 more project.tpy files I found in my old computer’s trash and from a OneDrive restoration in hopes these have anything left in them.
I’m sorry but these files are all equally empty.
