Tropy simply does not work on my computer. Every time I try and use the application on my computer 1. I get the caution symbol instead of many of my photos and 2. My computer fan goes crazy and I have to shut it down. With that being said, I am looking for a way to export all of the material in tropy that doesn’t involve downloading each item individually but also doesn’t cause me to lose all of my notes/metadata etc. Is this possible? Thanks!
You can export all items to JSON by selecting all the items in your project and copying them to the clipboard (you can then paste the JSON into another application) or via the export menu, which will prompt you to pick a location where to save the JSON file.
The JSON contains all your metadata and notes for each item/photo.
You can also install the CSV plugin which can be used to convert the JSON to CSV.
Regarding the underlying problem, does your fan kick when you’re working/viewing items or simply when you open the project and let it sit there? In combination with the warning signs, it sounds like Tropy doesn’t have the thumbnails for your pictures in the cache and constantly has to recreate them. This could be if there’s an issue writing to the image cache or some other issue with regard to accessing your hard disk. If you share your log file with us, we can take a look if there’s any obvious explanation.
