Moving Tropy project and photos to a new device

Hi,

I have just changed my computer and I would like to move my Tropy standard project to my new device (both of them Windows based). However, I haven’t been able to do so. Even if I moved both photos and project to the other device, it seems that Tropy cannot find the photos, so it asks me to consolidate them. Nevertheless, the Consolidate Photo Library operation does not work and the only way that seems to work is to do it manually. Is there a faster way to proceed?

Many thanks

Consolidation is not necessary when moving standard projects. I guess this actually an advanced project?

In that case, it depends intrinsically on how your photos are stored, but in most cases it should only be necessary to consolidate a single photo manually and afterwards the rest of them automatically. On Windows, the main reason why automatic consolidation doesn’t work sometimes if the drive letters are different. Automatic consolidation relies on relative paths between the old and new location of a file; in Windows, if the drive letters change it’s not possible to describe the movement using a relative path. I suspect this could be why it doesn’t work for you. In this case, the quickest way to consolidate everything is probably by updating the paths in project.tpy file using SQLite. Typically this can be done with a single command, but it again depends on the folder structure used to store the photos. We can help you do this, or update the file for you if you share it with us. The information we need is the project.tpy file (if you want us to update the file for you) and the full path to where the photos are stored both on the old and the new device.

First of all, thank you for your quick response and explanation.

After other several failed attempts, I have been finally able to solve the problem this morning and now everything seems to work smoothly.

Thank you very much again!
