Question about the Date column

Previously I attempted to post:

Many of the photos I have collected have no EXIF data, and thus no “Date Taken”. However, the date on which I saved them is useful to me - the Windows “Created Date”. Are there any options to display this?

I’ve since learned about exiftool, and have used it to set the Date/Time Original EXIF field with the Windows creation date. When I subsequently examine the field with EXIFdata.com, it is now populated. Yet, Tropy still does not display it in the Date column. Just what EXIF data is displayed here, if not Date/Time Original? (The other Tropy date tags, Created and Modified, reflect the date I added the image to the project.) Do I need to create a template of some sort?

Also: I understand the reasoning behind moderating posts for first-time posters. But how long before my post(s) are moderated, so folks can see (and hopefully answer) my questions?

Thanks
Dan

Tropy should already fallback to Windows’ created date on import if it doesn’t find a more suitable embedded date. However, in both cases, the date should be added at the photo level, not at at the item level. The reason for this is that there can be multiple photos in an item, but this has been confusing for many and we should consider adding the option, during import, to assign embedded metadata to the item instead.

Here is an example where you see the dc:date at the photo level:

The columns in the item table show only item-level metadata. You can configure which columns to show by right-clicking on the columns.

First-time posters are moderated, because there are so many bot attacks nowadays. Posts are hidden until a moderator approves them. We’re a small team so it can sometimes take longer, especially on weekends, but once you have one post approved you can post with no delay.

Ah! I did not see the photo level metadata because it was occluded by the thumbnail of the photo I had selected; yes, indeed - the Windows created date is there. Thank you.

Still, it would be an aid to present the date at the photo level in a column, to facilitate grouping of photos (which frequently corresponds to an event of interest). In its absence, you have to click on each photo and examine the photo level date to make this assessment; and if one has a long list of photos, there is a good chance that a relevant photo will be missed. If the option were there to assign the photo level date to the item date added field - which can be presented in a column - this should fit the bill.

Thanks
Dan

Is this under consideration? What is the release cycle like for Tropy?

Thanks!
