Searching for a specific metadata value?

Just getting started with Tropy and I love it so far. One thing that is either lacking or I just can’t find it, is to be able to search for a specific metadata value.

I know the search field will find basically everything, but often I just want to find images from a specific Collection or Box or Folder. Is there a way that we can do this? Being able to search for something like tag: my-tag or box: 100 would be immensely useful.

Alternatively, have smart folders similar to this type of smart search pattern on Mac would be doubly amazing.

I’ve seen a number of mentions of an “advanced search” in these forums but I can’t find that feature anywhere in the app. Am I missing something?

We haven’t released the advanced search yet, so you’re not missing anything. Something similar to smart folders/lists is part of the feature as currently conceptualized.

In the meantime, there’s unfortunately no easy way to search by a specific metadata field outside of accessing the db file directly.

Thanks for the update. Is there a plan for the releases that we can see anywhere? Keen to get an idea of what’s coming up. Thx.

For the next release we’re adding support for Transcriptions to UI (OCR or HTR). There are beta releases available that can be installed instead or alongside the stable release; while it should be safe to use the beta, we don’t generally recommend using it for your real projects.
