SQLITE_CANTOPEN error- missing folder

Hello! I am trying to copy a Tropy project to a new laptop. When I open preferences, I run into this SQLITE_CANTOPEN error.

I’ve deduced that (I think) the problem is that somehow back when I created the file, I somehow deleted the Tropy folder that housed it. So I have the .tpy file and it works fine, it is housed in a different folder with all the assets (documents and photos), but I can’t access the Project in preferences due to this error. Is there a way for me to work backwards to salvage the .tpy file and make a copy of it to move to another computer? Logs and .tpy attached.

Many thanks!!

I’m not sure I understand the question. Did you perhaps move the project file while it was open in Tropy? Basically, you should never do that. If you want to move the file, please make sure to close it in Tropy first. After moving the file, Tropy will not open it automatically, because it’s not at its previous location: that’s no problem, though, just open it again using File -> Open from the menu.

If you open the preferences window, the project currently open in your project window is going to be used. So, perhaps what you’re noticing is that you had the project open in Tropy, then you moved it while keeping the project window open. In any case, you can probably fix this by just closing Tropy, making sure the project file is where you want it to be and then open it. When the project opens fine like this, the preferences window should also work.

Hi there, I’m getting the similar/same thing. It won’t let me drag/drop folders, only files. Is that normal? log attached. thanks!

There are a lot of project files in the log file with similar names, so I’m guessing that you renamed or moved the project files around? So the issue could just be that Tropy doesn’t find the file where it expects it to be. Just start Tropy, close all project windows to make things easier, and then select File - Open from the menu. Picking a project file like this ensures that the file being opened is actually there. If you still get the same error, there is either a permissions issue or something wrong with the file. If you share the file with us, we can take a look in that case.
