Trophy won't open any more

Today my Dock icon has a line through it, and I get the error message:
You can’t use this version of the application “Tropy” with this version of macOS.
You have macOS 10.14.6. The application requires macOS 10.15 or later.
This is very odd as I don’t have automatic updates and I can only find one Intel version to download which also won’t open.
Weirder the app already installed says it was downloaded back on Tuesday, 5 March 2024 at 10:45 and is v1.16.2, the same as the current Intel download on offer.
Any ideas welcome!

That’s odd. Tropy 1.16 does require macOS 10.15 or later and on Mojave you should not receive automatic updates anymore. 1.16.2 was released on March 5th, so that it was downloaded back then is perfectly reasonable, but that version should not have been able to start on your system. If you would like to figure out what exactly happened, we could take a look at the access log of your project file; if you open the Terminal app you can run this one-liner, inserting the path to the project file you’ve been working on recently:

$ sqlite3 path/to.tropy/project.tpy "select opened, version from access order by opened"

For an advanced project you just use the path of the .tpy file here; for standard projects it’s the path to the project folder with /project.tpy added at the end. This will print the list of times the project file was opened and the version of Tropy that was used. If you see any 1.16 versions in that list and you only used the project on this computer it would mean that those versions were working on Mojave even though they’re not supposed to. If there are only versions listed then you’ve been using an older version of Tropy all this time, even though the update to 1.16 was downloaded last March.

In any case, on macOS 10.14.6 you should be able to install and use Tropy version 1.15.2.

Thank you so much for your response.

It gets odder. To wind back I have not actually used/launched Trophy for ages, probably since the middle of last year, as I’ve had to pause the project that was using it so I don’t think there is any point following your terminal tip.

I only realised there was a problem as my Dock icon had changed spontaneously:

I have just downloaded tropy-1.15.2-arm64 and I still have the same problem!

The only clue I can offer to my Mac’s odd behaviour is that when I did a recent restart I got an error for a utility I have had for years that said it was damaged and had to be downloaded from the App Store again. Doubly odd as it is not available from the App Store and getting it again from the vendor gave the same error until I got the trial version which now runs happily in place of the paid version. But then again it is probably totally unrelated.

Thanks again, Colin

You need to download the Intel version of the 1.15.2 release.

Thanks again.

It looks as if I’ll have to start over as all the internal links seem lost, but I can see the original file names when I minimise the view. I assume I neen to get rid of the laret at the foot of the image:
