I haven’t opened Tropy for a while, and now I can’t find it anywhere on my computer. When I search, I see the project name, but when I click on it, it says "There is no application set to open the document “[projectname].tropy.” It gives me the options to “Search App Store” or “Choose Application,” but I’m not getting anywhere with those options either. Do I need to download it again? Thanks for your help!
How did you install Tropy originally? On Windows, if you used the Tropy installer, Tropy should be installed and registered on your system unless you actively uninstalled it. On macOS, it depends on where you moved the application to. Normally, you’d move it to the Applications folder first, but it’s possible that you started the app directly from the DMG and never actually installed it. On both macOS and Windows, Tropy should add itself to the registry when you start it again so that you should then be able to open project files directly from your file manager. If you’re on a Mac, I suspect that you didn’t move Tropy to the applications folder originally, so technically it was never installed. Either way, if Tropy is not installed, you can just download and install it again (if it’s already installed, re-installing won’t do no harm either).
Thank you so much–I just downloaded it again and everything is there, so I am very relieved. I tried to follow your advice about getting it into Applications (I am on a Mac); first I found the [project].tropy file and dragged it into Applications, but then it just said tropy-1.16.2-arm64 (1).dmg there, so I wasn’t sure it was fully downloaded. But then I went back to the original Tropy graphic showing Tropy in a maze and Applications to the right; I tried dragging the Tropy icon over to Applications and that seems to have worked. Does it sound like I got this right? Thank you so much!
Yes, that sounds right. If you open the DMG it will show the Tropy application and a shortcut to the Applications folder: by dragging the application there it will be copied to your applications folder and should now stay installed there.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your help.
