Unhandled error - photo.displayObjectUpdateTransform

Hello Tropy team :slight_smile: I have been having a recurring issue in the past weeks (possibly since the 1.17.3 update? Not sure because I had been doing other stuff for a couple months and not using Tropy).

Issue: app throws an error when opening selections that are rotated. I believe only on rotated selections (i.e. I made a selection from an image and rotated it, then go to open that selection later). The error shows up and if I dismiss it, the Tropy screen is blank. I have to close and reopen the window, or even the app, but often it tries to reopen the same page, throwing the same error.

Error: {“msg”:“unhandled error: photo.displayObjectUpdateTransform is not a function”,“stack”:“TypeError: photo.displayObjectUpdateTransform is not a function\n at setIntermediatePosition (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/project-57Yc_NaO.js:59454:9)\n at Esper.sync (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/project-57Yc_NaO.js:58897:9)\n at Esper.componentDidUpdate (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/views/project.js:18552:126)\n at commitLayoutEffectOnFiber (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:10250:27)\n at recursivelyTraverseLayoutEffects (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:11121:8)\n at commitLayoutEffectOnFiber (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:10295:8)\n at recursivelyTraverseLayoutEffects (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:11121:8)\n at commitLayoutEffectOnFiber (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:10235:8)\n at recursivelyTraverseLayoutEffects (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:11121:8)\n at commitLayoutEffectOnFiber (file:///Applications/Tropy.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/lib/settings-dgKQOa1J.js:10295:8)”,“system”:“Darwin 25.3.0 (arm64)”,“time”:1776175834094,“version”:“1.17.3”}

System: MacOS Tahoe 26.3, Tropy version 1.17.3. The images are all in iCloud but locally downloaded to the Mac.

Well, I did just realise there’s a Mac software update waiting for me. I can update that first and see if it resolves the issue.

Edit: It did not resolve the issue, so it persists in Tahoe 26.4.1

Thanks for reporting!

We’ve already fixed this error in the latest beta release, so it’s going to be fixed in the upcoming version 1.18.
